Arop ran the fastest 800m time in the conference this season at the Vanderbilt Invitational
Track and Field's Arop Named SEC Freshman of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State head track and field coach Steve Dudley expected freshman Marco Arop to make an impact, but thought it would take him some time to adjust.
Instead, Arop claimed the 800m crown at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday with a Southeastern Conference-best time of 1:48.21 and earned SEC Men's Freshman of the Week honors on Tuesday for his efforts.
"I said earlier that it would take him some time to win," Dudley said. "But this weekend was great to see for him. He's going to be faster, but that was a good time to get his season started."
Arop, an Edmonton, Alberta, native, ran earlier in the year at the Blazer Invitational, but did not compete in his primary event. In Nashville, he ran the 800m for the first time in his collegiate career and made his presence known by clocking a time that is the second-fastest in the nation this season and sits in second place all-time in the Bulldog record books.
