January 21, 2018 | Football
PHILADELPHIA -- For the first time in his illustrious NFL career, former Mississippi State Bulldog defensive standout Fletcher Cox is headed to the Super Bowl.
Cox's Philadelphia Eagles crushed the Minnesota Vikings, 38-7, in Sunday's NFC Championship and will face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII on February 4 in Minneapolis.
Cox becomes the 35th different Bulldog player to reach the Super Bowl. It will be 49th all-time appearance by a Bulldog in the Super Bowl.
Cox finished with three tackles and two quarterback pressures against the Vikings. The Yazoo City native was selected to his third straight Pro Bowl earlier this month. He has racked up nearly 300 tackles and 34 sacks in six NFL seasons all with the Eagles.
Cox was a 2011 first-team All-SEC selection at State, recording 14.5 tackles for loss and five sacks in his final season before being selected 12th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Eagles.
