MSU Opens SEC Play Against Arkansas
August 24, 2017 | Men's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. — When SEC play begins in January, a long-time rival will visit Humphrey Coliseum to officially usher in the 2018 conference slate — Arkansas.
The two will meet on Jan. 2 for their only showdown of the year. Last year, the Bulldogs claimed a 84-78 win in Fayetteville.
For Game 2, Mississippi State will hit the road to face Ole Miss on Jan. 6 to renew the SEC's longest-played series, which the Bulldogs lead, 142-114.
MSU, coming off a 16-16 campaign, will play an 18-game ledger that features home and away matchups with the Rebels, Missouri, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Alabama.
Tip times and TV will be announced at a later date.
"With the level of play improving and the outstanding players, many destined for the NBA, and great coaches we have in the SEC, this is a monster schedule that is going to present some exciting challenges," third-year MSU coach Ben Howland said. "But it's one I'm excited about, our players are looking forward to, and I know our fans are going to love the competition.
"Our five home-and-homes are against extremely strong programs, and the other eight games will be equally as tough. We have very high expectations, and I'm looking forward to see where we will stack up."
The other home games feature Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee.
On the road, MSU travels to LSU, Kentucky, Florida and Texas A&M.
The SEC Tournament will be played at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis this year, starting on March 6 and concluding with the championship game on March 11.
