We wish all of the students at State good luck this semester, and we hope to see you at our athletic events throughout the year!
Our annual Fan Day will be taking place from 4-6 p.m. this Saturday in the Palmeiro Center, featuring our football, volleyball, soccer and women's golf teams. Doors open at 3:30, with autographs beginning at 4. You can find more information here but this is a good time to mention two things. First, the parking lot in front of Palmeiro will be closed to cars as construction continues on the new baseball stadium, so make parking plans accordingly. Second, with this as one of our first events of the year, it's a great time to check out Maroon Memories if you haven't yet done so. You can go online now and see what this unique program has to offer at www.hailstate.com/memories.
First year head coach Tom Anagnost and his soccer team officially kick off their season with two matches this weekend and we are thrilled to watch these young ladies play. We play Stephen F. Austin on Friday night at 7, and Coach Anagnost is asking for us to fill the stands with the biggest crowd in program history. I know I'll be there and I look forward to seeing many of you in the crowd, as well.
Then, after a big Friday night, we host Missouri State on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close out the opening weekend of play.
A reminder to our students that season tickets for football go on sale online next week. We have one of the biggest allotments of student seating in the conference, but as numbers are capped, you'll want to act fast. Members of our Hail State Rewards student program will have early access with tickets available for them on Tuesday morning at 8:30. All remaining season tickets will be available to the student population as a whole on Wednesday morning at 9. The deadline to join Hail State Rewards and be eligible for early tickets is this Thursday at 11:49 p.m. For more details, students can visit www.hailstate.com/studenttickets.
Also, we'll have more information next week, but I wanted to share that, in conjunction with the Student Association, we will host the annual Cowbell Yell in Davis Wade Stadium on Thursday, August 31, just ahead of our season-opener against Charleston Southern. Be sure to mark your calendars for our unofficial kickoff to football season.
We announced this last Friday, but I want to make sure everyone gets the news that our men's and women's basketball seasons will open with a doubleheader on Friday, November 10, the night before we host Alabama in football. Coach Schaefer and our ladies will host Virginia, while Coach Howland's men will welcome Alabama State to The Hump, and in addition to the games, will be having a special ceremony as we raise the Final Four banner to celebrate the incredible season our ladies had last year.
It is important to note that tickets for this evening are separate from season ticket passes, so be sure to purchase an individual ticket for opening night if you are planning to attend. The twin bill ticket will cost $20 and is available now at www.hailstate.com/tickets or by calling the ticket office at 1-888-GO-DAWGS.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals:
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this update.
Hail State!
