STARKVILLE, Miss. – Incoming Mississippi State women's golf freshman Blair Stockett won the Mississippi Women's Golf Association Amateur championship Thursday afternoon.
Stockett, a first team all-state golfer from Jackson Prep, defeated another all-state selection in Presley Baggett in Thursday's final at Shell Landing Golf Club in Gautier, Miss.
She faced a tough challenge to make it to the final, knocking off 12-time State Am winner Cissye Gallagher in the second round and another Gallagher, defending champion and LSU junior Kathleen, in Wednesday's semifinal.
Stockett recorded a 75.8 scoring average this season as she helped guide Jackson Prep to the MAIS AAAA, Division I state title.
