
The honors just keep rolling in for Mississippi State, as seniors Caroline Seitz and Alexis Silkwood were named NFCA All-South Region Second Team on Thursday.

STARKVILLE, Miss. – More honors keep rolling in for the Mississippi State senior class, as Caroline Seitz and Alexis Silkwood landed NFCA All-South Region Second Team honors on Thursday.
Seitz, who tore through conference play and finished leading the league in SEC-only games with 28 RBI, 55 total bases, seven home runs and a .724 slugging percentage, landed earned her second NFCA All-South Region honor. She was selected to the All-South First Team in 2014.
A staple of Bulldog softball over the last four years, Silkwood also pulls in her second All-South Region laurel, as she was named to the All-South Third Team in 2015. The senior ace has collected 15 wins and 105 strikeouts to lead the Bulldogs throughout an impressive 2017 campaign.
Overall, MSU now has 39 total NFCA All-Region honors spread out amongst 23 players since 1997, with 12 of those coming during head coach Vann Stuedeman's six years at the helm of the Maroon and White. This is also the 13th season that the Bulldogs have received multiple NFCA All-Region selections.
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Seitz finished the regular season on an absolute tear at the plate, helping lead the Bulldogs to four SEC series victories in the final five weekends of the year. Along with pacing the SEC in the four categories, her .368 clip, 28 hits and six doubles in conference games all finished in the league's top 5. Seitz paces State with 44 RBI, nine home runs and a .535 slugging percentage and has tallied 11 multi-RBI games throughout the 2017 season. She has also flashed her skills on the defensive side of things, locking down third base and placing second in the SEC with 139 assists this year.
Her hot streak began when MSU took a home series from South Carolina, which featured a two-double, two-RBI performance in the Saturday game. She would go on to have a monster weekend in the next series at No. 19 Georgia, going 7-for-10 with 14 RBI, four homers, two being grand slams, a 1.900 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. She became the first player in school history to record a grand slam in back-to-back games when she connected for one in both games one and two. She also accomplished a program first by hitting four home runs during a weekend SEC series.
For her efforts, Seitz earned Louisville Slugger NFCA, USA Softball and SEC Player of the Week honors. She became just the second player in school history to earn all three awards in the same week, joining former MSU All-American Iyhia McMichael.
Seitz is currently riding a career-high 17-game hitting streak, which is the ninth-longest streak in school history. The slugger hit three home runs over the last two weekends of regular season play, which included a home series win against No. 16 Kentucky.
Silkwood has put together a stellar senior campaign that has seen her take over a number of categories in the MSU record book. The East Alton, Ill., native has crowned herself the new MSU K Queen, became the first pitcher in Bulldog history to record over 500 strikeouts and 600.0 innings pitched. During Super Bulldog Weekend, she captured her 56th-career victory, making her the all-time winningest pitcher in MSU history and against Georgia made her 136th-career appearance, taking over first on that list as well.
She also stands first in innings pitched (660.2) and appearances (143), while standing second with 94 starts, third with nine saves and tied for third with 13 shutouts.
Along with her 15 wins and 105 strikeouts, Silkwood has been dominant in closing out games, leading the SEC and standing eighth nationally with five saves. Those five saves are tied for sixth in the MSU record book for most in a season.
Along with her record-breaking accomplishments, Silkwood also became the 13th Bulldog in school history to reach the pros, as she was selected in the fifth round (24th overall pick) by the Akron Racers in the 2017 NPF Draft on April 27.
Seitz, Silkwood and the rest of the Bulldogs begin their road to Oklahoma City on Thursday, as they face No. 21 BYU in the Salt Lake City Regional to open the 2017 NCAA Tournament. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. CT and will be live streamed on ESPN3, with Alex Perlman and Megan Turk on the call.
