April 22, 2017 | Women's Golf
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Katie Holt stepped up for the Mississippi State women's golf team on day two of the SEC Championships in Birmingham, Ala., shooting a 73 to lead the Bulldogs to a 300 in Saturday's second round at Greystone Golf & Country Club.
Holt notched consecutive birdies on Nos. 5 and 6 en route to making the turn at 2-under-par. She shaved three strokes off her opening round to finish Saturday 1-over par and in a tie for 40th.
"I thought I started off the round well," said Holt. "I had two birdies in the middle of the front nine, but struggled a bit on the back. I thought I kept it together for an overall solid round though."
Holt's performance helped MSU end the day in 12th position.
Seniors Jessica Peng and Ji Eun Baik both enter Sunday in a tie for 33rd position. Baik put in a couple of birdies in her round before finishing with a 75. Peng carded seven pars and a birdie on No. 6 to end the first nine at even par. A late birdie at No. 17 helped Peng end the day with a 76.
Ela Grimwood cut two strokes off her opening-round tally to fire a 76 on Saturday that put her in a tie for 61st. Fellow freshman Teri Doss overcame a tough front nine to finish the day with an 81 and in 64th place.
MSU begins its final round of the SEC Championship Sunday at 8 a.m. CT.
