MSU Falls In Tight Midweek Contest To No. 23 Ole Miss
March 22, 2017 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – In a Wednesday night showdown in Oxford, the Mississippi State Bulldogs (22-8) dropped a tight 2-0 decision to the Ole Miss Rebels (22-6) at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
The Dogs earned four hits on the night, as Kat Moore, Reggie Harrison, Calyn Adams and Amanda Ivy all turned in base knocks. Moore extended her hitting streak to five-straight games, while Ivy pushed hers to a season-high three-straight contests.
Adams' single in the second moved her career-high reached base streak to 18-straight games.
Ole Miss struck first, as the Rebels loaded the bases with no outs in the opening frame and brought home a run via hit by pitch. However, Holly Ward would not be phased and put together a strikeout-popup-groundout combo to close the frame with no more damage.
State was able to get a runner on in each of the next three innings, but the Ole Miss defense held strong and kept MSU off the board. The Rebels would tack on another run in the bottom of the sixth, as a single to center brought the home team's lead to 2-0.
MSU threatened in the seventh, putting runners on the corners with two outs thanks to an Amanda Ivy single. Ole Miss responded by forcing a groundout on the next batter to close out the game.
Ward finished the night throwing 5.2 innings of work, striking out four and walking three. Silkwood struck out the only batter she faced, a swinging strikeout to end the sixth.
The Bulldogs will now head to Oklahoma for the College Preview Tournament this weekend. MSU will face Louisiana Tech (3:30 p.m. CT) and No. 9 Oklahoma (6 p.m.) on Friday, March 24 in Norman, Okla., before closing out the weekend against UAB at noon on Saturday, March 25. Saturday's game will be held in Oklahoma City at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium, the home of the Women's College World Series.

Kat Moore and Amanda Ivy each upped their hitting streaks on Wednesday night. Moore's is now at five-straight games, one short of tying her career high. Ivy's seventh-inning single pushed her streak to a season-high three-straight games.
