February 23, 2017 | Soccer
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State soccer team and first-year head coach Tom Anagnost will kick off the spring season this Saturday, as the Bulldogs host Troy for an exhibition at 3 p.m. CT.
The contest at the MSU Soccer Field will be the first chance for fans to preview the new-look Bulldogs and see the first game action under head coach Anagnost.
MSU enters the exhibition with an experienced senior class, as nine Bulldogs will be preparing for their final season in the Maroon and White. One of those experienced seniors is Mallory Eubanks, who capped her junior season with an All-SEC Second Team selection while leading the Bulldogs in goals and assists.
Also leading State this spring, is the underclassmen trio of Courtney Robicheaux, Carly Mauldin and MaKayla Waldner, who will all be seeking to further improve under Coach Anagnost. Mauldin led the team in minutes last season after compiling 1,653, with Robicheaux a close second at 1,617. Waldner netted two goals and added an assist in her first season to rank second on the team in points among returning players.
Who to Watch For Troy
Saturday's opponent Troy, who finished last fall with seven wins, comes into the spring season with only two seniors. The Trojans will look to sophomore Qarli Stone on the attack after losing leading scorer Abby Reynolds to graduation. Stone scored a pair of goals for the Trojans while seeing action in 16 games. At goal, Troy returns senior keeper Mikki Lewis who collected 62 saves in her junior season.
Up Next
After Saturday's exhibition, the Bulldogs will travel to Auburn next weekend as MSU continues its spring slate against the Tigers on March 4 at 2 p.m. CT.
Admission
Admission, as with all home games at the MSU Soccer Field, will be free for fans.
