Coach Mullen and his Bulldogs are riding a four-game winning streak, and with an undefeated record at home in 2017, the onus is on us to once again help provide an incredible home field advantage against the No. 2 team in the country. The ticket office has exhausted its supply, but if you're still in search of tickets, we recommend our official partner StubHub. And if you have tickets but are unable to attend, I encourage you to do everything you can to get those tickets in the hands of a fellow Bulldog this weekend.
This week is also our annual Military Appreciation Game, for which we have several events scheduled, while the team will be wearing tribute uniforms to show our respect for all those who have served and do serve. I hope you will all join us in honoring heroes past and present on Saturday.
This week's game (as well as our home finale vs. Ole Miss) are True Maroon contests, so please show your school spirit by wearing maroon! And don't forget that your gameday questions can be answered at www.hailstate.com/gameday, which always includes our weekend schedule surrounding gameday as well as a complete A-Z guide for your visit to campus and Davis Wade Stadium.
On the long list of things to be excited about at MSU right now, the return of Bulldog basketball is near the top. It has been mentioned in this space previously, but I'll let this serve as one last reminder that tickets for Friday night's season openers are separate from season tickets. If you have season tickets for either or both teams but have not purchased a doubleheader ticket, you will have to do so for entry on Friday. A two-game ticket can be purchased starting at $10 in person at Humphrey Coliseum on game day or online at www.hailstate.com/tickets.
The action kicks off with Coach Howland and our men hosting Alabama State at 5:30 p.m., followed afterward by Coach Schaefer's Top-5 ladies hosting Virginia at 8. In between games, we will have our Final Four banner ceremony for our women's team, celebrating their run through the NCAA Tournament this spring, their big win over UConn and their appearance in the National Championship Game. I hope you'll join me as we raise the banner and congratulate our Bulldogs on making history.
Finally, I want to extend a huge congratulations to junior Nuno Borges on our men's tennis team. Since joining our program two years ago, Nuno has become one of the country's top players and is currently the nation's second-ranked player in singles. This past weekend, the 2017 All-American and SEC Player of the Year, turned in the most dominating performance of his career, defeating six nationally-ranked opponents - without losing a set - en route to winning the inaugural Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Fall Championships singles crown in Indian Wells, California. In the collegiate tennis landscape, this is a major accomplishment and we are very excited about Nuno and the rest of his Bulldog teammates – who have also had very good fall seasons - opening their spring season in January.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals:
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this update.
Hail State!
