As I said in our announcement, Joe is one of the most creative and successful offensive minds in college football today. He is doing things that no one else in the country is doing, and his unique scheme will help ensure that we continue building toward championships for our football program. I was exceedingly impressed with Joe's strategy defensively, his plan for building a staff and the expectations he has of his players in the classroom, in the weight room and on the field. He is a detail-oriented coach and his vision and philosophy for the full scope of the program reflect that.
As the program moves forward, I want to take a moment to say how incredibly proud I am to be a Bulldog. The response to the opening of our head coach position shows the amount of respect people around the country have for our program, a testament to how far we've come in the nearly 10 years since we last hired a new football coach.
So much of that respect and praise has come because of you, the fans, and the support you have shown our teams every game of every year. By traveling for bowl games, packing out an expanded Davis Wade Stadium, and creating a genuine family atmosphere in everyday life, you have made it clear that our head coach will be welcomed, wanted and supported in all facets. You've displayed to the entire country how unique and incredible our passion is, highlighted for all to see in primetime this year when we hosted LSU and Alabama in front of oppressive and unwavering crowds.
In Coach Moorhead, we believe we have found someone deserving of that support. There are exciting times ahead for Mississippi State football, both in the near and immediate future, and I can't wait to continue building upon the incredible tradition and foundation our program already has in place. In the coming days and weeks, the greatest thing you can do is two-fold: (1) Continue to show your loyal support to the young men of the team as they tirelessly prepare for our bowl game and what promises to be an exciting 2018 season. And (2) Join me in enthusiastically welcoming Coach to Starkville. Like Dak Prescott said, at Mississippi State, we don't have fans, we have family, and we're proud to add Joe Moorhead to ours.
We will have announcements coming soon about ways to meet, greet and welcome Coach Moorhead, starting today at 4 p.m. when Coach and his family arrive at Bryan Field airport in Starkville. A press conference will be held tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. in the Seal Football Complex's Multipurpose Room that is also open to the public. If you'd like to go ahead and pre-order tickets for our bowl destination now, you can do so here. Our bowl will be announced this Sunday afternoon.
We are always excited whenever we get to play in Jackson so close to the homes of our southern and central Mississippi fans. Those in the area, be sure you make plans to join us at the Mississippi Coliseum tonight at 7 p.m. as we welcome a tough Louisiana-Lafayette team to the state. We take great pride in the entirety of our state and I look forward to this annual trip.
Then I hope you'll join us for both ends of Sunday's basketball doubleheader, starting on the front end as Coach Schaefer and our No. 3 Bulldogs host Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. The game is part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge and will be broadcast on SEC Network, so let's fill up The Hump and create another great atmosphere for our team.
Meanwhile, Coach Howland and our men have a full weekend, as well, playing two games in four days, both of them broadcast nationally on the SEC Network. Ben has mentioned several times how great an impact a big, loud and enthusiastic crowd can have for his team, so let's give them the home court advantage in both outings.
We start things off on Thursday at 6 p.m. against North Dakota State, then they're back in action on Sunday night at 7 against a strong Dayton club. It's going to be a fun several days of basketball for both teams and I'm looking forward to watching it all.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals:
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this update.
Hail State!
