Children's of Mississippi Kid Captain of the Week: Patrick Nason
November 20, 2017 | Football
Kid Captain is a partnership between Children's of Mississippi and the Ole Miss Rebels to honor pediatric patients. Their inspirational stories remind us just how truly courageous these young people are. We are pleased to introduce this week's Children's of Mississippi Kid Captain Patrick Nason of Meridian.
Patrick Nason – Meridian, MS
In April 2015, Patrick's parents noticed that his hand was unusually swollen and took him to his pediatrician. An X-ray taken at their local hospital revealed a large mass in Patrick' bone. He was immediately sent to Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson. Additional testing revealed Patrick had a rare bone tumor known as an aneurysmal bone cyst. He underwent surgery to have the tumor removed and bone grafts were taken from his hip to reconstruct the bone in his hand.
Patrick's surgery was a success. He's able to play sports and do everything a normal six-year old can do without any limitations from his hand. Because tumors like his have a 40 percent rate of reoccurrence, Patrick will continue to be followed closely over the next few years by his care team at Children's of Mississippi.
Patrick loves playing baseball and soccer and going to any sporting events. He's also a talented artist and recently won second place in a poster contest at his school.
Have fun at the game, Patrick! Your friends at Children's of Mississippi are cheering for you.
