Gameday: No. 16 MSU Aims For Eighth Win On Road At Arkansas
November 17, 2017 | Football
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- No. 16 Mississippi State football looks to bounce back as it aims for its fourth eight-win season in six years when it travels to face Arkansas at 11 a.m. CT Saturday in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. For complete gameday information, visit HailState.com/gameday.
The Bulldogs (7-3, 3-3 SEC) are the SEC's fourth-highest ranked team and currently sit in fourth place in the Western Division with two games in six days remaining. The Razorbacks are 4-6 overall and 1-5 in league play, though the series has seen some intriguing games in Fayetteville.
A week removed from a tough defeat to top-ranked Alabama in the final minute, State has been eager to return to the field and put itself in position for a possible New Year's Day bowl.
"We can't let one loss become two losses," MSU head coach Dan Mullen said. "I like the attitude of our team and the way we have prepared this week. Our guys couldn't wait to get back out there to practice. It will be a tough environment."
The Bulldogs continue to play physical football on both sides of the ball. MSU is up to 12th nationally in rushing with 250.6 yards per game on the ground. Aeris Williams and Nick Fitzgerald are fifth and sixth, respectively in the SEC in rushing. Both are on the cusp of 1,000-yard seasons.
Defensively, State has put pressure on the quarterback, notching 12 sacks in the last four games combined. The Bulldogs racked up a season-high five against Alabama, which was the most allowed by the Tide since Clemson had five in the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Four MSU players have at least 50 tackles this season led by safety Mark McLaurin's 60. Montez Sweat leads the squad in sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (9.0).
