November 10, 2017 | Men's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – With the 2018 dual match season on the horizon, Mississippi State men's tennis head coach Matt Roberts announced the addition of a highly-regarded prospect Friday to prep for the 2018-19 campaign.
Gregor Ramskogler from Reichraming, Austria, signed a National Letter of Intent to kick off the 2018 signing class as the Bulldogs look to build on the success they have already had through Roberts' first three seasons at the helm.
"On his visit, Gregor saw how the team works on and off the court and how demanding their schedules are," Roberts said. "He saw the chemistry between the teammates and how they push each other each day. There was a mutual feeling that Gregor will thrive in a culture like ours. He has a desire to succeed in everything he does and with his character and self-confidence, we feel he is a perfect fit to grow and develop here."
State, which made its seventh consecutive NCAA appearance last season and finished the year ranked 18th nationally, will open the 2018 season on Jan. 14, hosting UAB at 1 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.

Gregor Ramskogler comes to MSU as one of the top young players in the world (ATP 1841), and is spectacular in doubles play, having captured the 2016 Austria F3 Futures doubles crown and also reached the semifinal round or better four times in the ITF Futures circuit. Prior to beginning play in the ITF Futures circuit, Ramskogler was a Top-300 junior in the world, with his highest rank (256) coming in 2016. As a junior in doubles, Ramskogler held a sparkling 35-19 ledger. In singles, Ramskogler has defeated multiple ranked opponents in ITF Futures play.
Coach Roberts on Ramskogler: "We are so excited to get to work with Gregor. He has many weapons and we are excited to help him see how he can use his game at a consistently higher level. He has a huge serve, great groundstrokes and can play doubles right away. He competes with a lot of passion and will love our team environment from the first day."
Ramskogler on joining MSU: "I was really impressed about how they work on the court. They are really focused and hard-working. The coaches have a really great knowledge of tennis and I think that they can really improve my game, and off the court they are really cool guys.
In addition, the team's atmosphere is definitely special."
