Next weekend when we host UMass, we will again be honoring former Bulldogs as five of our former student-athletes will be inducted into the MSU Sports Hall of Fame. Each of these five Bulldog greats will be recognized during the game, and be on the lookout for more information coming soon on the banquet in their honor next Friday night.
Between now and Nov. 4, we have plenty of chances to cheer on our Bulldogs of all varieties both at home and on the road.
We've been fortunate enough to have two early opportunities to get a look at our basketball teams. We had a tremendous crowd on Sunday as Coach Howland's team took on Nebraska in a charity exhibition, and we are honored that we were able to raise so much to help victims of Hurricane Irma. Tonight, it's Coach Schaefer and his ladies who will have their first public outing in The Hump, hosting their annual Maroon-White Scrimmage at 6 p.m. Admission is free and open to all who want to come watch.
Meanwhile, don't forget that the season opener for both teams is fast approaching as we look forward to the basketball doubleheader on Friday, November 10. As I've mentioned in this space before, tickets for that evening are separate from season ticket packages, so if you haven't bought a ticket specifically for that night, you can do so for $20 at www.hailstate.com/tickets, a single ticket good for entry into both games.
While the football team is in Texas this weekend, we've got a lot going on right here in Mississippi. I want to start by saying how impressed I was, yet again, watching the competitive spirit and determination of the young ladies on our soccer team against Ole Miss on Sunday. Coach Anagnost and his staff have done a tremendous job and deserve all the credit they get. I hope all of you who are able will join me on Thursday for the final home game of the year as we host Texas A&M at 7 p.m., and if you can't make it in person, you can follow along with the action online on SEC Network+.
Meanwhile, Coach McFatrich and our volleyball team continue their SEC slate this weekend with two huge games in Starkville. Please make plans to join us at The Griss on Friday at 8 p.m. against Alabama and on Sunday at noon against Florida.
And finally, our baseball team will be making its first public appearance of the fall as Coach Cannizaro and his young men will have three intra-squad scrimmages in Jackson this weekend at Smith-Wills Stadium. The Diamond Dawgs will play Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at noon, and admission to all three scrimmages is free. If you can't make it this weekend, the team will be back November 17-19 in the same location for the annual Maroon-White World Series.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals:
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this update.
Hail State!
