In addition to other events, we'll have a host of moments and opportunities to celebrate Bulldogs old and young at Saturday's Homecoming football game against Kentucky, and we hope to have a full and loud Davis Wade Stadium for a big conference tilt against our SEC East crossover opponent. We will be honoring the Homecoming Court at halftime, as usual, and this year's edition has even more excitement for those of us in athletics as our very own star student-athlete Victoria Vivians was elected by her fellow students to serve as Homecoming Queen.
It will be a fun weekend, filled with more than just football, and I look forward to seeing everyone back on campus.
This week in Nashville, the conference is hosting Media Days for men's and women's basketball, a sure sign that basketball season is approaching. We'll be opening the 2017-18 campaign on Friday, November 10, the night before we host Alabama in football, with a doubleheader featuring both of our exciting teams.
Coach Schaefer's ladies are coming off the greatest season in MSU history and, after being picked second in the SEC in the preseason poll this week, his team was also the only one in the conference to have two players on the Preseason All-SEC team as Victoria Vivians and Morgan William both earned first-team honors. Our men are following that up by returning four starters, making a quick jump from young last year to experienced this season as they look to make some noise with their depth and veteran leadership.
A reminder here that your season tickets do not cover admission to this doubleheader. You can buy a single ticket that gives you entry to both games at www.hailstate.com/tickets It's a night you won't want to miss as we'll be raising the banner to honor our 2017 National Finalist women's team.
In addition to football, make sure to join us for one of the biggest soccer games of the season this weekend. Coach Anagnost and his team host rival Ole Miss at 4 p.m. on Sunday with a nationally-televised broadcast on the SEC Network. It's the last weekend home match of the year as our Bulldogs close out the regular season next Thursday night at home against Texas A&M.
And finally, I will close by saying congratulations to Coach Franks and the student-athletes of our women's cross country team for another impressive regular season, closing it out with a third place finish over the weekend at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa. They begin postseason play soon, competing in the SEC Championships first and then on to the NCAAs.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals:
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this update.
Hail State!
