Gameday: Football Returns Home, Hosts BYU in 11 a.m. Saturday Tilt
October 13, 2017 | Football
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Following a productive open week, the halfway point of the 2017 season has arrived for Mississippi State football as the Bulldogs step out of Southeastern Conference play to host BYU at 11 a.m. CT Saturday in Davis Wade Stadium. For complete gameday information, visit HailState.com/gameday.
State (3-2) is playing four out of its next five games in the friendly confines of Davis Wade Stadium. BYU (1-5) has dropped four straight contests. The Bulldogs haven't played in Starkville in 28 days since a 37-7 thumping of then-No. 11 LSU on Sept. 16.
"It feels like a long time since that LSU game," Mullen said. "After getting through the first part of the schedule at 3-2, we have five of our last seven games at home. Even though it's an early kick, we need that home field advantage and are excited about playing in front of our fans again."
The Bulldogs head into the tilt with the SEC's third-best rushing offense, averaging 252.8 yards per game. State has rushed for at least 175 yards in all five games. They will go up against a Cougar defense that issues 167.2 yards per contest on the ground.
MSU will welcome the return of wide receiver Gabe Myles, who has missed the last three games with a foot injury. The fifth-year senior hauled in touchdowns in his first two games before suffering the injury in the second half at Louisiana Tech.
Meanwhile, Mullen is seeking to tie College Football Hall of Famer Allyn McKeen as the second-winningest coach in school history. Mullen, who is coaching in his 109th career game, owns a 64-44 (.593) record. McKeen was 65-19-3 from 1939-48.
