As always, we need and appreciate your support at Davis Wade Stadium, and it is the great atmosphere you create that helps to spur our team on to victory. It is no coincidence that our Bulldogs are undefeated at home this season, so let's do our best to help keep the streak going this week against BYU! We still have a limited number of tickets available, so if you haven't yet made plans to join us, I hope you'll do so. You can visit www.hailstate.com/tickets for direct access to the game.
Also a quick reminder that fans in the lower level are asked to wear white to this week's game, and those in the upper level please wear maroon.
A pair of announcements have gone out this week sharing the news of two different former football Bulldogs whose careers will be permanently honored. On Monday, long-time NFL offensive lineman and former MSU left tackle Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack was announced as our SEC Legend this year. Pork Chop is one of only two Bulldogs in our history to be named a first-team AP All-American and he was a part of our 1998 SEC West Championship team. He will be honored on the field next week when we host Kentucky on October 21 for Homecoming.
Today, we shared news that I am particularly excited about: we will be inducting a new Bulldog into the Ring of Honor at Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday as former MSU great Joe Fortunato will be permanently honored in the stadium he once called home. A 1951 All-American, Joe played on both sides of the ball, lettering as a fullback and a linebacker, and went on to be a star for the Chicago Bears where he was voted a team captain and was a catalyst for their 1963 NFL Championship. No player in MSU history has ever been to more Pro Bowls than Joe, and few have made as significant of an impact in their time in Maroon and White. We are thrilled to give Joe Fortunato the recognition he so richly deserves.
MAROON MADNESS AT THE HUMP FRIDAY
After a stretch of road action, Coach McFatrich and the ladies of our volleyball team are back on campus this Sunday, hosting Georgia at 2 p.m. We wish the team good luck as they play at Missouri on Friday night, and I hope you will all join me in packing Newell-Grissom on Sunday after football on Saturday. Let's make it a full and fun weekend of Mississippi State Athletics.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals:
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this update.
Hail State!
