STARKVILLE, Miss. – After countless hours of service to the Starkville community and Mississippi State University over the past year, junior goalkeeper Rhylee DeCrane has been named to the Southeastern Conference Soccer Community Service Team, the league office announced on Friday.
"It's amazing to be honored with such a great distinction," DeCrane said. "I hope through this recognition, more opportunities will open up for the M-Club and myself so we can see as many student-athletes giving back to the community as possible. With as much as Starkville and this school has given me, to be able to give back to so many and be rewarded for it is very humbling and drives my desire to do even more."
DeCrane has been an integral part of the MSU community since becoming a Bulldog in 2014. The Myrtle Beach, S.C., native is an active member in the MSU M-Club, serving on the executive board as the "Sergeant At Arms." DeCrane also serves as a SAAC representative for the soccer team.
Last winter, DeCrane spent time with Habitat for Humanity, where she helped build homes for families in need. The junior goalie also headed up efforts for the MSU soccer team during a bottled water drive for flood victims in Baton Rouge in August of 2016.
Along with other members of the Bulldog soccer squad, DeCrane traveled to Starkville area elementary schools for carpool meet and greets to welcome arriving students to school numerous times during this past season. Additionally, DeCrane donates her time with the Clay County Animal Shelter throughout the year, assisting staff with the care of animals at the facility.
DeCrane majors in biological engineering and mathematics and hopes to one day with animals in a veterinarian role.
Last season, junior Mallory Eubanks won the 2015 SEC Community Service Team honor for the Bulldog soccer team. DeCrane's 2016 recognition marks the 12th season the SEC has sponsored the award.
