STARKVILLE, Miss. - Former Mississippi State All-American golfer Ally McDonald begins her rookie season on the LPGA Tour this weekend, participating in the fifth annual Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic.Â

McDonald, a Fulton, Miss., native, will be part of a 108-player field that will compete in the in the first season-opening LPGA event.Â
Â
McDonald earned her LPGA tour card in October by finishing second on the Symetra Tour Volvik Race for the Card money list with $110,359. During her 2016 stint she tallied 18 starts, recording 12 Top-15 finishes and eight appearances in the Top 10.Â

"We are incredibly proud of our Bulldog, she has the work ethic, talent and personality to be very successful on the LPGA, said MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm." She continues to give back to the program as as volunteer assistant coach. She bleeds maroon and white."Â
McDonald, who is a volunteer assistant coach at MSU when not playing professionally, will seek to conquer the renowned Tom Weiskopf-designed Ocean Club Golf Course over the four days of stroke play. McDonald tees off Thursday, with the final round set for Sunday.Â

The event features a field that includes some of the top players in the world, including Rolex World Rankings No. 2 Ariya Jutanugarn, the 2016 Rolex Player of the Year, defending champion Hyo Joo Kim and past winners See Young Kim, Jessica Korda and IIhee Lee. Â

 The winner will receive $210,000 and 500 CME Globe points.Â

McDonald enjoyed a record-setting career for Ginger Brown-Lemm at Mississippi State, setting the top three single-season stroke average marks en route to finishing with a program-best 72.40 career average. She claimed five tournament wins, including the 2013 NCAA Central Regional. She also led the Bulldogs to back-to-back NCAA Championships, finishing sixth in 2014.Â
