Fred Ross, Justin Senior Showcase Skills at 68th Senior Bowl, Kickoff Saturday
January 25, 2017 | Football
MOBILE, Ala. – Former Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott took advantage of his week-long interview before launching a historic NFL rookie campaign. Bulldog wide receiver Fred Ross and offensive tackle Justin Senior will have a chance to do the same as the two showcase their skills at the 2017 Reese's Senior Bowl this week.
Kickoff for the 68th edition of the game is set for 1:30 p.m. CT Saturday live on NFL Network from Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Ross is the first MSU wide receiver to play in the contest since Justin Jenkins in 2004. A two-time first-team All-Southeastern Conference recipient, Ross measured 6-foot-1 and 203 pounds at Tuesday's official weigh-in. The Tyler, Texas, native told reporters he received advice from Prescott, the game's 2016 most valuable player.
"He just told me, man, go hard out there," Ross said. "Don't worry about anything and do the best you can do. Everything you do is being evaluated, so do it as hard as you can and do it as professional as you can."
Ross broke seven school records during his career – three single-season and four career marks. He showed his versatility playing every receiver position during his career and ranking ninth all-time in SEC career receptions (199). He also received his degree from MSU this past December.
Senior is the fourth Bulldog offensive lineman in the past four seasons to represent the program at the Senior Bowl. The previous three – Gabe Jackson, Dillon Day and Blaine Clausell – are all on NFL rosters. Senior measured 6-foot-5, 322 pounds at the weigh-in.
Senior claimed the 2016 Kent Hull Trophy as the state of Mississippi's top offensive lineman. He saw action in over 900 snaps as a senior and paved the way for a Bulldog rushing attack that averaged 230.5 yards per game on the ground. The Montreal, Quebec, native earned his undergraduate degree in sociology in 2015.
Ross and Senior are the 89th and 90th Bulldogs to play in the historic all-star game since its beginning in 1950. MSU has produced three MVPs in the contest led by Prescott's performance last year.
MSU equipment manager Phil Silva is also in Mobile this week. Silva annually works the Senior Bowl, and this year's game will be his 26th.
