It's apparent that the enthusiasm for MSU basketball is as strong as it's been in quite some time, and the reason is clear when you watch our teams play. We've got two programs playing at a high level, competing in entertaining fashion and winning games both at home and away in the Southeastern Conference. The atmosphere that you've all helped create has been outstanding and it gives our teams a true advantage over their opponents. Humphrey Coliseum, thanks to the great fans of MSU, is one of the hardest places to play in the country.
Your support has been vital to the growth of these two programs, and not just because you've cheered them on in The Hump. The encouragement you've shown our players through social media and the resources you've helped provide by generous giving through the Bulldog Club are invaluable offerings. Mississippi State Athletics doesn't happen without its fans, and these basketball teams are perfect examples of what we can accomplish.

Part of what makes the spring semester so fun is just how many teams we have in action this time of year. Coach Steve Dudley and our track and field teams began their indoor season over the weekend in the Vulcan Invitational in Birmingham, and already they're off to a great start as our Bulldogs won several events, set a handful of personal records and reeled off a large number of top-five finishes. Good luck to our men and women this weekend as they head to Nashville to compete in the Vanderbilt Invitational.

After such an impressive homestand, we wish our basketball teams good luck and safety as they travel this weekend. Our men play at Tennessee before returning to town for a game next Wednesday against Missouri, and our women play at Alabama tomorrow and at South Carolina on Monday.
The result isn't what we all wanted, but I am incredibly proud of Coach Howland's young team for the game they played against Kentucky last night in front of the biggest crowd of the season. They battled back time and again, and they never gave up or quit, showing just how strong-willed and resilient they are. This group is a joy to watch as they've developed quickly and shown that they can play with anyone in the country.
Meanwhile, I've run out of superlatives to describe Coach Schaefer's team. Our women are off to the best start in program history at an undefeated 19-0 and they're No. 4 in the country after navigating an increasingly difficult schedule with ease to this point in the season. If you haven't yet got on board with this team, I urge you to do so now. As fun as the ride has been this year, it's only going to get better.

BULLY PULPIT WELCOMES BULLDOG GREAT WILL CLARK
We announced the beginning of The Bully Pulpit Podcast last week, a feature that will be a part of this update every week and will have additional episodes throughout the weeks. This week, I joined host Matt Wyatt as he welcomed Bulldog Baseball all-time great Will Clark to the podcast. We talked to Will about everything from playing for Ron Polk to facing Nolan Ryan is his first MLB at-bat. It was a great deal of fun hearing the 'The Thrill' share his stories. You can listen here https://soundcloud.com/hailstate/will-clark and don't forget that you can subscribe to the show on SoundCloud and iTunes by searching for "Hail State."
