STARKVILLE, Miss. – With offseason training in full swing, head coach Tom Anagnost announced on Wednesday the addition of New Jersey standout Kristen Malebranche to the 2017 roster as she joins the Bulldogs as an early enrollee.
Malebranche comes to Starkville by the way of Hillsborough, N.J., where she graduated from Hillsborough High School in December of 2016.
"I'm really excited to now be a part of this team," Malebranche said. "Everyone has been friendly and welcoming from the moment I've arrived, which has made my transition from New Jersey to Starkville very smooth. I'm ready to improve my fitness, skill set and attitude to become a better player overall this spring before the start of the fall season."
While playing with HHS, Malebranche turned in an impressive résumé as she garnered First Team All-Conference and Most Valuable Player honors as a senior with the Raiders. In her junior season she earned All-State Honorable Mention and Second Team All-Conference laurels as well. Over her prep career, Malebranche netted 13 goals and added two assists playing as a defender under head coach Leeann Best.
In club action, Malebranche was showcased at the defender position as a center back for the Players Development Academy (New Jersey) under coaches Tom Anderson and Larry Hart.
Malebranche is also a gifted student as well as she displayed her aptitude for the classroom after earning the Paul Robeson Academic Award in 2012 and a spot on her high school's honor roll all four years at HHS.
