Under Coach Schaefer, our women are No. 4 in the country, have a 17-0 record and just won at Tennessee for the first time in program history, giving us a three-game winning streak over the Vols at present. Even still, Coach Schaefer believes this team has not yet hit its ceiling. I can't wait to see where this team goes this year.
Meanwhile, Coach Howland is once again demonstrating why he's been such a successful head coach everywhere he's been. His ability to develop talent is increasingly evident in his second year as we watch this team – the second-youngest in the country – get better and better every night out. Coming off of back-to-back road wins to begin SEC play, improving to 11-4 after last night's victory at Arkansas, and featuring one of the conference's best young stars in Quinndary Weatherspoon, these Bulldogs have become quite an act to observe.
If you haven't yet got on board with MSU basketball, now is the time.

THE BULLY PULPIT PODCAST DEBUTSIn an effort to continue sharing the stories of Mississippi State Athletics, we are starting a regular podcast, The Bully Pulpit, to highlight the people and the moments behind Bulldog sports. This will be an interview-centric show, starting this week as host Matt Wyatt welcomes Ben Howland and myself to the show. The Bully Pulpit will be a weekly feature of this update, but many weeks will have multiple editions of the podcast, so make sure to add it to your favorites on SoundCloud and iTunes. The first edition is available by clicking on the SoundCloud interface at right or on this link.

With excitement levels so high, it's great timing to be hosting marquee SEC matchups for both our men's and women's teams this week. Our women welcome Florida tomorrow night at 8 p.m., broadcast nationally on SEC Network, while our men host Texas A&M at noon on Saturday on the national CBS game. Saturday is our StarkVegas game and we're asking everyone who attends to wear black.
Some would tell you that The Hump used to be one of the hardest places in the country for opposing teams to play. They're right, but I would also tell you this: it still is. Let's prove it this week and through the rest of this basketball season.

One of the things I am always proud to see is when people outside of Mississippi State recognize the skills and abilities of our student-athletes we've spent so much time cheering for. Many of the seniors on this year's football team are now in the first steps of starting their careers at the professional level, and I want to personally congratulate those whose talents are being honored with invitations to play in all-star games ahead of the NFL Draft. Good luck to Richie Brown in the East-West Shrine Game, to Johnathan Calvin and Jamaal Clayborn in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and to Justin Senior and Fred Ross in the Senior Bowl.
I also want to congratulate our four former Bulldogs who are competing in the NFL Playoffs this weekend. Good luck to all of you, and I hope one of you finishes the season with the Super Bowl trophy in your hands!

May this serve as a weekly reminder that season tickets, while going quick, are still available for the 2017 baseball season. You can reserve yours by visiting www.hailstate.com/tickets or by calling The Bulldog Club. On that note, congratulations to sophomore Jake Mangum who has already been named a preseason All-American.
This will be a fun team to watch, and that experience will be even better and easier as we near completion of the biggest video board in college baseball. Dudy Noble Field is and will always be home to the best fans and atmosphere in the country.

We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
