Carter Spexarth becomes the ninth and final member of MSU's fourth-ranked 2017 signing class.
Carter Spexarth Rounds Out MSU Softball’s Stellar 2017 Class

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Rounding out Mississippi State softball's fourth-ranked 2017 signing class will be one of the bright young stars from the state of Texas, as head coach Vann Stuedeman announced the signing of Carter Spexarth.
"Carter comes from the fertile recruiting ground of the greater Houston, Texas area," Stuedeman said. "She is a threat offensively and brings a combination of power and the ability to hit the ball to all fields. She is a utility player that can play the corners as well as compete in the circle. We are excited to have her join our program here at Mississippi State."
Spexarth is another in a long line of Bulldogs joining the 2017 class that are ranked nationally by Flo Softball, as she comes in at No. 143. The Woodlands, Texas, native is the fifth MSU player to appear in the rankings.
"I chose Mississippi State because for me, it's not entirely about softball," Spexarth said. "It's about the person I want to become and the people I want to be around. And for me, nothing beat the feeling I got while visiting their softball family. On and off the field, I feel like I will be able to become the best version of myself and have the opportunity to compete for a national championship. There is nothing more I could ask for."
Spexarth is preparing for her final season on the high school level and first with the Tomball High School Cougars, led by head coach Alicia Pierucci. Spexarth spent the previous three years at Oak Ridge High School, developing into one of the top players in the state. Spexarth is a two-time member of the All-District Team and Vype Magazine honoree who holds an impressive .428 career batting average through her first three seasons.
Her play freshman year was key in the Oak Ridge War Eagles capturing the 2014 Area Championship. The following year, Spexarth reeled in her second-straight All-District honor, while adding in a pair of Houston Player of the Week laurels. The 2015 season saw Spexarth and ORHS capture the first of two Bi-District Championships.
In 2016, Spexarth was named a Vype Gullo Player of the Month, as the War Eagles captured their second-straight Bi-District title.
Turning to travel ball, Spexarth currently plays for coaches Richard Bass and Glynn Tolleson on Texas Peppers Gold. Spexarth's success started early, as she captured a 12U State Championship for Sudden Impact. In 2014 and 2015, Spexarth recorded a combined .750 batting average at PGF Nationals, while also dominating on the mound, earning a no-hitter.
Most recently, Spexarth tallied an impressive .465 clip and was named to Flo Softball's Hot 100 for the 2016 season.
Spexarth is also on top of the game when it comes to the classroom. The academic letterman is a Renaissance Scholar and has been inducted into the National English Honor Society and National Math Honor Society. She has also been named an Exemplary ACT honoree.
Carter will be the third member of her family to reach the collegiate level of athletics. Her father played basketball at McPherson College, while her mother was a club soccer player at Oklahoma State.
The daughter of James and Jill Spexarth, Carter plans on majoring in business management at Mississippi State. She has three siblings, Reagan (18), Taylor (15) and McKinley (13) and all four of the Spexarth children were named after United States Presidents. When not on the field, Carter enjoys spending time with her dogs.
