Wednesday Bulldog Update - 9/14/16
September 14, 2016
If you or someone you know is not receiving this and would like to, please e-mail us at:

Greetings, Bulldogs! I want to start this week's email by thanking all of you for packing out Davis Wade Stadium Saturday and cheering on our Bulldogs through heat and hour-and-a-half lightning delay. Our fans, players and coaches all responded well to a hard first week and I know it meant a great deal to our team to see and hear you out there cheering them on all day and night. We'll see you back at DWS on October 8 against Auburn!
We have another busy week of MSU sports on hand, and it was fun to start it off with a visit from SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. The Commissioner even took out a chunk of his morning to practice with our soccer team on Tuesday, a very unique experience for our young ladies. Greg has continued to display strong leadership and a specific vision for our ever-improving conference. We are lucky to have him in charge.
2017 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE RELEASED
As many of you likely saw yesterday, the SEC announced its 2017 football schedule, which means that our entire 12-game schedule is now complete and it can be found here. In addition to MSU having seven home games next year, you'll also notice that the Egg Bowl is back on Thanksgiving in a multi-year deal, ensuring that an even number of games will be played in both Starkville and Oxford, starting with MSU as the host at Davis Wade in 2017.
The Thanksgiving Egg Bowl was a hallmark of our years when we were the best in the west under Jackie Sherrill and is a tradition valued by many in the state. With a dedicated time slot on ESPN every year, we believe the excitement, exposure and tradition make this a great opportunity.
SOCCER AT HOME SUNDAY
While our football team is on the road, we've got plenty of action at home, including our 5-2 soccer team hosting SEC foe Vanderbilt on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game is being broadcast nationally on ESPNU, so we hope to create a great atmosphere and show the country the way we support all of our teams.
We're asking fans to wear white for the game, and the first 250 in attendance with a cowbell will be given free shirts. See you there!
VOLLEYBALL HOSTS MAROON CLASSIC
Meanwhile, our volleyball team hosts an entire tournament this weekend, playing four matches of their own in just two days. On Friday, we play Florida International at noon and Troy at 7 p.m., then on Saturday we face Eastern Illinois at 2 p.m. and Portland at 7 p.m.
This weekend marks the end of the non-conference portion of the schedule, so I hope you'll come out and help our Bulldogs as they make their final preparations for SEC play.
WRAPPING UP THIS WEEK'S EMAIL IN MAROON AND WHITE
- The MSU Alumni Association will be holding a tailgate before the game in Baton Rouge on Saturday at Walk-On's from 2:30-5 p.m. with complimentary appetizers and a cash bar. The address is 3838 Burbank Drive.
- Our softball team announced its fall schedule, which includes four games in Nusz Park this year.
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update.
Hail State!
