Football season is finally here. Game week is upon us and our Bulldogs take the field on Saturday to open the 2016 season, the eighth year for Coach Mullen to lead our team out of the tunnel.
I know all of us are looking forward to seeing our team at Davis Wade Stadium after six-straight years of going bowling. The team and DWS will look the same – with some new faces, of course – though there are certainly a few changes to be aware of on Saturday.
As most of you have heard by now, we are all clear this year. Only clear bags are allowed inside the stadium, and we're clearing the air, too, as Mississippi State University is now a smoke-free campus. If you have any questions on the clear bag policy, make sure to visit www.hailstate.com/clearbag.
I also want to direct you to our updated fan code of conduct as you prepare to come back to campus for the first football game of this athletic year. And as per usual, I strongly recommend visiting our gameday page leading up to and during gameday for any questions you have or information you may need. That can be found at www.hailstate.com/gameday.
Oh, and don't forget to wear white on Saturday! We'll see you at the Dawg Walk in The Junction at 9 a.m. and in DWS at 11 to take on South Alabama.
HEAT INITIATIVES SET FOR SEASON OPENER
While we're talking about gameday, we announced this week that we are taking extra measures to ensure the safety of our fans at Saturday's game against South Alabama. With significant heat expected, we are changing a few things to help everyone in attendance stay hydrated. First, we will be allowing fans to bring in their own water bottles, either two personal-size, clear water bottles or one clear reusable personal water bottle of 32 ounces or less. Water bottle refilling stations will be located on the northeast and northwest corners of the ground level concourse, east side ground level and west side 300 level concourse.
Second, we will be reducing the price of 12-ounce water bottles to $1, while the one-liter bottles will drop to $5.
Additionally, air-conditioned rest areas are available at gates C and L, and stadium first aid areas will be staffed with extra EMS personnel.
COWBELL YELL THURSDAY AT 9 PM
As you make plans for the week, be sure to include the annual Cowbell Yell pep rally in your schedule on Thursday night at 9 in Davis Wade. I'll be speaking myself, but more importantly, former Bulldogs John Bond and Cam Lawrence will be there to address the crowd, as well as Coach Mullen and some of our guys on the team.
We're introducing something new for the fans this year and we will be unveiling it at Cowbell Yell, so I look forward to a big and loud crowd tomorrow night.
ON-CAMPUS CATERING AVAILABLE SEASON-LONG
For those who will be tailgating on campus this or any other Saturday in Starkville this fall, MSU Catering is a great option to provide food and drinks for your group from any of our on-campus eateries such as Subway, Chick-fil-A, Moe's or even the State Fountain Bakery. They ask that all orders be placed by 3 p.m. on the Wednesday before the game in question, and then orders will be available for pick-up on campus at the Game Day Central on the corner of Creelman Street and Stone Boulevard.
To place your catering order, visit www.msucatering.com or call 662-325-3663.
WRAPPING UP THIS WEEK'S UPDATE IN MAROON AND WHITE
- A reminder that Dawg Talk with Dan Mullen begins this week. We'll be broadcasting from The Veranda all year on Thursdays at 7 p.m., so make sure to tune in or come join.
- With the start of the new athletic year also come new additions and experiences available through Maroon Memories. We've had great success with this program and encourage all to take advantage of it at www.hailstate.com/memories.
- Men's and women's basketball season tickets are on sale now to Bulldog Club members and the priority deadline is next Friday. After that, remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public.
- Tickets are also on sale now for the second annual MSU Sports Hall of Fame Gala honoring this year's inductees and taking place next Friday, September 9, at 6 p.m. at The Mill Conference Center. Tickets are $110 and can be purchased at www.MSUMClub.org.
- And finally, work has begun on the biggest video board in college baseball. Construction crews have taken down the previously existing board at Dudy Noble Field and are in the process of erecting one 260 percent larger. Can't wait to see it in action next spring!
We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help the athletic department at Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
1. Buy Season Tickets
2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
3. Get Others To Do The Same
Thanks for taking the time to read this Update. Â
Hail State!
