MSU Places Forty-Nine On 2015-16 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll

STARKVILLE, Miss. – A total of 49 Mississippi State student-athletes were named to the 2015-16 First-Year Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced Thursday.
The 49 Bulldogs span 13 sports (baseball, football, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's golf, women's golf, women's soccer, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track and field, women's track and field and volleyball) and are part of a total 876 student-athletes named to the list across the 14 SEC schools.
Baseball and football placed an MSU-best eight on the list, with men's track and field not far behind with seven. Softball had the most among women's programs with five, as women's soccer and women's track and field each had four named.
Along with having posted an MSU-best 3.32 grade point average, men's tennis posted three of its own to the honor roll, while men's golf, women's golf and women's tennis each tallied two. Men's and women's basketball rounded out the group with one apiece.
The SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2015-16 academic calendar.
Each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
On Wednesday, 59 Bulldogs spanning eight sports were named to the 2016 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll.
