State Softball Hosts Southern Miss In Makeup Date

Mississippi State leads the all-time series with Southern Miss, 24-10. In Starkville, MSU leads 11-6, while in Hattiesburg, the Bulldogs lead 11-2. The series is tied at two when played on a neutral field. Last year, the teams split a home-and-home series. USM won the first game, 2-0, in Starkville, while State defeated Southern Miss, 8-0, in Hattiesburg. MSU has outscored the Golden Eagles, 141-82.
Freshman Chelsea Bramlett continues to make her mark in her short collegiate career. The Cordova, Tenn. native enters the game having won the last to SEC Freshman of the Week awards. She currently leads the conference in runs (43), hits (61) and stolen bases with 39 which sets a new MSU all-time freshman record. She is also fourth with a .421 batting average, and ninth in on-base percentage (.468).
Kelli Miller leads the Bulldogs from the mound with an 11-6 record and a 1.67 ERA. In 96.2 innings of work, the senior has struck out 50 batters. Kelsey Nurnberg is 6-2 with a 2.44 ERA and 35 strikeouts in74.2 innings of work.
Southern Miss enters Tuesday's game with a 14-26 overall record, and5-6 in Conference USA. The Golden Eagles are coming off a weekend that saw them sweep Marshall. As a team, USM is hitting .230 with 39 doubles and 32 home runs. Southern Miss has also stolen 41 bases in only 53 attempts. Offensively, the Golden Eagles are led by Megan Hill. The freshman is hitting .363 with 11 home runs, nine doubles, four triples and 33 RBI. She has also scored 31 runs. Brandi Alonzo is hitting .330with four doubles, 20 RBI and 16 runs.
From the pitching circle, Southern Miss is led by a trio of pitchers. Shea Naramore leads the team with a 9-18 record and a 5.33 ERA. She also has 13 complete games, while striking out 53 batters. Samantha Davis is 3-8 with a 2.55 ERA with 28 strikeouts. Emily Howard has a2.59 ERA, but is just 1-0 in 11 appearances. Opponents are hitting .296 against Eagle pitching.
Following this weekend's action, the Bulldogs will host No. 5 LSU on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. (CT) in a conference doubleheader.
