May 25, 2016 | Softball
AUBURN, Ala. -- Still looking for its first win in the month of April, the Mississippi State softball team will continue an 11-game stretch away from home this weekend by visiting Auburn, Ala., for a three-game Easter weekend series with the 20th-ranked Auburn Tigers at Jane B. Moore Field.
The Bulldogs (30-16, 4-10 SEC) will renew their rivalry with their SEC West counterparts for the 33rd time when they meet the Tigers (26-12, 7-8) in a weekend-opening matchup at 7 p.m. on Friday evening. The two will close out the set with a 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon doubleheader.
All three weekend games are slated to be broadcast live over the airwaves on WMSV 91.1 FM with Stephen Cole handling the play-by-play duties and Todd Anderson providing color commentary. The game can also be followed in progress via a live stats link, as well as a streaming audio link, at the official Internet home of the Mississippi State athletic department, www.MStateAthletics.com.
State enters the weekend on a season-long nine-game league losing streak after a heartbreaking 6-5 upset loss to Ole Miss in Oxford on Tuesday. Auburn returns home for the first time since March 26 after splitting eight games on the road, including series losses at Florida and LSU.
State's current eight-game losing skid is its longest since dropping 15-straight from March 20, 1982-March 13, 1983. The nine-game league losing streak is the longest for the Bulldogs since SEC play began in 1997.
