STARKVILLE, Miss. -- On the heels of a four-game road trip, the Mississippi State softball team will return home Tuesday evening to begin a five-game homestand by welcoming UAB in a 6 p.m. tilt at the MSU Softball Field. The game was originally scheduled for March 22 but a postponement was forced due to inclement weather.
Tuesday evening's game between the Bulldogs (25-21) and Blazers (19-28) will mark the beginning of a stretch for the Maroon and White that will see it play five games in six days, culminating with this weekend's series with Arkansas. State will face Ole Miss in the first of three games over the next three weeks on Thursday as well. Admission to all 2005 MSU Softball home games is free.
Riding a three-game losing skid after dropping every contest in its weekend set at #10 Alabama, MSU has posted a 15-8 mark in Starkville this season, collecting triumphs in six of its last nine outings at the MSU Softball Field. The Blazers are just 6-12 away from Birmingham this season, but have taken three of its last four on the road.
Mississippi State leads the overall series with UAB by a 5-1 count, including an 8-3 victory over the Blazers on March 8 in the first half of the home-and-home doubleheader. In that contest, State rallied for eight runs in the third inning behind a 12-strikeout performance from righthander Stephanie Comeaux.
