Bulldog Netter Romain Ambert Set To Open Play In NCAA Singles Championship Wednesday
May 25, 2016
A native of Toulouse, France, the junior Bulldog enters the national title hunt as the nation's 19th-ranked player. He will face California's 36th-ranked Conor Niland in Wednesday's first round at 11 a.m. ET. The two players have never met.
An all-American last season, Ambert has now made the NCAA singles field in each of his first three seasons as a collegian. That makes him only the second Bulldog ever to do so, joining all-American Matthieu Ballay (1996-98).
A three-time, first-team, all-Southeastern Conference selection, Ambert carries a 78-29 overall singles record for his career. He is 14-7 this season after missing the fall semester with an injury.
The 64-player singles championship will run through Memorial Day, May 26, with one round being held each day.
