Browne, Davis, Lewis, McWilliams Advance To SEC Finals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- A trio of Mississippi State's men and one female advanced to the finals held Sunday in the 2003 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Marquis Davis and Pierre Browne led the Bulldogs, going 1-2 in the 100m dash preliminaries. Davis clocked in at 10.28, while Browne ran a 10.33 to win the third heat. Both are in the 100m and 200m finals.
Another Bulldog in his second finals is LaChristopher Lewis. The Coldwater, Miss., sophomore ranked third in the 400m dash trials to advance to Sunday's finals. He qualified in the 200-meter dash on Friday.
State's women have one runner advance into two finals as well. All-American Tiffany McWilliams ran the top time in the 1500m prelims to make her second final set for Sunday. She had the top time in the 800m trials on Friday.
Also for MSU's men, sophomore Glenn McFadden was 12th in the 100-meter dash preliminaries (10.62), while Keston Nelson (47.30) and Jamel Ashley (48.05) finished 10th and 16th in the 400m dash trials, respectively. All three had previously qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional.
In Saturday's finals, sophomore Meggan Hodge finished seventh in the women's steeplechase. She finished the 3000-meter race in 11:04.73 to put up the Lady Bulldogs' first points of the meet.
With seven events scored, Arkansas leads the men's team competition with 51 points. Florida's women lead with 69 points. State's men rank 11th with six points, while the Lady Bulldogs are tied for 11th with two points.
The final day of the SEC Outdoor Championships begins at 2:30 p.m. et with the men's discus.
