Idaho Distance Standout Inks With MSU Women's Track

McPherson owns three state and four school records at Skyview High School, where she is coached by Al Stout. She has won four state 4A titles as a sophomore and junior and is a Junior Olympic champion. She owns the Region 11 Junior Olympic records at both the 1500 and 3000 meters.
Her best time in a 5K cross country race is 19:27, while her best clocked 3200m is 11:15.52, both school records. Her other school record times include a 5:05.2 in the 1600m and a 2:15.02 in the 800m. Her accomplishments in track include four individual state titles, with three of those coming in the 800 meters.
"Jennifer is another great pickup for us on the women's side," said Schmidt. "She, along with our other signees and returnees, helps solidify our chance at a run at the SEC cross country title."
McPherson has been named to the Southern Idaho Conference all-academic team for track and cross country the last three seasons. An Idaho Top Scholar recipient, she has been named to the Who's Who among High School Students and Athletes the past four years. She currently has a perfect 4.0 GPA.
McPherson also is an accomplished violist, being named all-state orchestra and a state solo finalist during her sophomore year. She was the first chair violist for three years at Skyview. She also was an Olympic torchbearer during the torch relay for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
