STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Mississippi State women's golf team qualified for postseason play and was placed in the NCAA East Regional to be played May 9-11, at the University Club in Baton Rouge, La. The Lady Bulldogs are ranked 36th nationally by Golfstat and are seeded 13th out of 21 participating teams in the regional. Mississippi State is also one of nine Southeastern Conference schools to qualify for the tournament.
"I'm extremely pleased with our play this year," said MSU head coach Christi Sanders. "It's an honor to qualify for postseason play with such a young team. However, we set high goals at the beginning of this year, and we hope to advance as far as possible in NCAA play."
This marks the second time in three years that Sanders has taken a team to the NCAA tournament. The Lady Bulldogs finished 16th in the 2000 NCAA East Regionals.
The top eight teams from the regional advance to the NCAA Championship, to be held May 21-24, in Auburn, Wash. Also, the top two individual competitors from non-qualifying teams participate at the NCAA Championship.
