MSU Track Has Good Showings In Meets Across The U.S.

Freshman LaChristopher Lewis led the Bulldogs at the USM Invitational on Saturday. He finished first in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, running a 10.69 in the 100m and 21.40 in the 200m.
Also, junior Dale Moorhouse won the 400-meter hurdles in Hattiesburg with a mark of 53.92. Other notables include freshman Matthew Denton's second-place finish in the high jump (6-8) and freshman Chris Withrow's third in the pole vault (14-0)
As for MSU's women, they took home one first place finish Saturday from Southern Miss. Junior Le'Kisha Barnaby-Pope finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.18. Freshman Jennifer Johnstone also had a good day, placing second in the hammer (143-0). Also finishing with a second-place performance was junior Ronni Watjus, who completed the 5000-meter run in 12:31.97.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs had one runner each enter the Long Beach Invitational, and both made the most of that entry. Junior Kelvin Harris took second place in the 110-meter hurdles (14.08), while senior all-American Camille Harper finished second in the 100-meter dash (11.87).
Last night's results from California include freshman Crystal Averitt's throw of 147-2 at the Pimona-Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, Calif., placing 17th. MSU's women's distance crew had a disappointing evening in Walnut, Calif., with junior Christine Zawaski placing 21st (17:20.29) in the 5000- meters and freshman Meggan Hodge finishing tied for 30th (37:16.23) in her first collegiate 10,000 meters competition.
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs conclude action Sunday at the Mt. SAC Relays.
