Mississippi State Track Heads To Mt. SAC, Southern Miss
May 25, 2016 | Track & Field
Some athletes have traveled cross-country to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays this weekend while others will venture down to Hattiesburg to run in the Southern Miss Relays on Saturday.
The strong sprint corps, who, as a group, includes two automatic NCAA qualifiers and two provisional qualifiers, will lead the men at the Mt. SAC Relays, one of the country's premier events.
The women heading to Walnut, Calif., look to be led by freshman Tiffany McWilliams, where she will compete in the 1500m, the event she currently leads the SEC in.
Leading the Lady Bulldogs to the campus of Southern Miss will be the women's hurdlers Le'Kisha Barnaby-Pope and CeCe Brown. Brown, the school's record holder in the 400m hurdles, could contend for the title in Hattiesburg.
The men hope for another set of strong performances from freshmen J.D. Erickson and Matthew Denton. Erickson, a thrower, leads the team this season in the shot put and discus. Denton is the team's top high jumper, clearing a personal-best 6-10 at last weekend's Jace Lacoste Invitational.
Events get underway at Southern Miss at 10:30 a.m.
