Lady Bulldogs In Sixth At Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic; Gertsson Leads Individuals

ATHENS, Ga. -- The Mississippi State women's golf team is in sixth place at the 30th Annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic held in Athens, Ga. The Lady Bulldogs posted an opening round 308 at the par-72 University Golf Course.
Senior Anna Gertsson is atop the leaderboard in the individual competition with a one-under-par score of 71. This is the second time this season that Gertsson has shot a 71, her lowest single round this season.
Junior Anna Knutsson is second on the team and tied for 24th in the individual competition with a score of 77. Freshmen Natalie Booth and Beth Irwin are tied for 47th with each posting a round of 80 on Friday. Freshman Janet Dyer carded an 85 and is tied for 76th.
Host school Georgia leads the tournament with an opening round of 297, while Gertsson is one stroke ahead of Georgia's Summer Sirmons, who posted a 72.
Play resumes on Saturday with 18 holes of action and concludes Sunday.
