#22 MSU Netmen Travel To #30 Vanderbilt Wednesday
May 25, 2016
The Bulldogs, 6-6 overall, are still searching for their first SEC win of the 2002 season having lost in their first four bids, three times by tight 4-3 scores. MSU is led by sophomore Romain Ambert, who is ranked No. 6 in the country in singles. Ambert and junior Rene-Charles Combette are No. 12 in the country in doubles.
Vanderbilt is also 6-6 overall and has dropped its first five league affairs. Vandy is paced by sophomore Bobby Reynolds, who is ranked 28th nationally in singles.
State holds a 29-5 advantage over Vanderbilt in the series (since 1969) and has won the last 18 matches contested between the teams. MSU took a 5-2 decision last season in Starkville.
"Vanderbilt is a much better team than their record indicates," MSU head coach Sylvain Guichard said. "In fact, they've been a little bit like us in that they have lost some close SEC matches. This will be a tough match, particularly in Nashville."
Following Wednesday's contest, State's next action will also be on the road, at seventh-ranked Kentucky this Sunday. MSU will return home March 29th and March 31st, to host 15th-ranked Tennessee and top-ranked Georgia, respectively.
