The eighth-place showing at the University of Oregon-hosted national championship meet capped a stellar 2001 season for the Clinton, Miss., native that included breaking Falilatu Ogunkoya's 13-year old 100m school record with an 11.38 mark at the Texas Relays.
Harper's performance Saturday coupled with Elisha Williams' fifth-place showing in the long jump put State in an eight-way tie for 40th place in the team standings with five points. The showing stands as the fourth-best team finish in Lady Bulldog history at the NCAA outdoor meet.
Senior Vance Clarke concluded the 2001 MSU track season and his Bulldog career with a 17th-place showing in the triple jump Saturday evening at Hayward Field. One of the top jumpers in school history, Clarke landed a leap of 50-6 1/4 to end a splendid two-year run at State.
