Silkwood Named To SEC Community Service Team

STARKVILLE, Miss. – On Wednesday, the Southeastern Conference announced the 2016 Softball Community Service Team and Mississippi State pitcher Alexis Silkwood was named to the team.
The junior from East Alton, Illinois, has volunteered in 24 community service projects since August 2015, including being part of the 2015-16 Bully's Book Blitz campaign, in which she spent five hours reading to classes at local Starkville schools. Silkwood also put together disaster kits at the Boys and Girls Club and participated in MSU's United We Feed drive to collect food for the less fortunate.
“It is an honor to not only represent Mississippi State University on the field but in the community as well,” Silkwood said. “As a team we love to give back to Starkville and our community any way we can. I just love giving back to our kids any way I can either in the classroom or other service opportunities.”
She also participated in the T.K. Martin Fun Run for MSU's T.K. Martin Center for Technology and Disability. Silkwood serves as president of the MSU M-Club, a community service club for MSU varsity letter-winners, and is among the top three active service participants across all teams at MSU. The lefty is also a member of the Bulldog Honor Roll and is a Dean's Scholar.
The Bulldogs will take on fifth-seeded No. 4 Alabama in the first round of the 2016 Southeastern Conference Tournament with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. CT from Nusz Park. The game can be found on the SEC Network, as well as online via WatchESPN.com or the ESPN app.
