May 11, 2016 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Forty-four Mississippi State athletes will lace up for the Outdoor SEC Track & Field Championships starting Thursday.
After seven weeks of action, the No. 13 men's team and No. 16 women's team will face its toughest field of the season at the championships. Nine men's teams and 10 women's team are in the Top 25 of the latest rankings.
“There is a lot of talent on these teams,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “The SEC is a very talented and competitive conference. I believe we can expect great things from our athletes this weekend."
The three-day meet begins at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday with the decathlon 100m dash. Willie Reed and Jaquarius Wilson will take on the decathlon for MSU.
Erica Bougard enters her last SEC Championships beginning with the heptathlon. Bougard won the event at the 2015 SEC Outdoor Championships scoring 6,250 points. Alongside Bougard in the heptathlon will be Zaria Tillman in her first SEC Outdoor Championships.
Along with the multi events on Thursday will be the prelims for the men's and women's 800m run, 200m run and 400m hurdles. Event preliminaries are set to run on Thursday and Friday with the finals being held on Saturday.
