Bulldogs Host Jaguars For Midweek Rematch

STARKVILLE, Miss. – As the tough and trying 2016 schedule continues, the Mississippi State softball team (21-15) will take a break from Southeastern Conference play to take on South Alabama (21-11) Wednesday at Nusz Park.
First pitch between the Bulldogs and Jaguars is set for 6:04 p.m. CT. The two sides met earlier this season in Mobile on February 19 where State defeated then-No. 23 USA 4-2 in eight innings.

Admission is free for all regular season games at Nusz Park.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bulldogs are coming off of a three-game series against in-state rival Ole Miss in which the Rebels took two of three on the road. MSU took game two 1-0 with an RBI single from junior Amanda Ivy to score senior Kayla Winkfield from second in the bottom of the eighth. In game three, Winkfield had a career day at the dish by going 4-for-4 with three runs scored.
TEAM & PLAYER NOTES
· MSU is 12-0 this season when scoring six or more runs and 17-4 when holding opponents to two runs or less.
· State's team earned run average ranks fourth in the SEC and seventh in all of Division I, while freshmen Regan Green (1.16, 9th) and Cori Cooper (1.32, 14th) have ERAs that rank in the top 15 nationally.
· Junior Caroline Seitz leads the Bulldogs with 11 multiple-hit games in 2016, while junior Katie Anne Bailey and Winkfield are tied for second with 10.
· After being hit by pitch twice in game three vs. Ole Miss, freshman Sarai Niu has now been plunked 15 times this season which leads all Bulldogs and ranks 17th in the NCAA.
ON DECK FOR MSU
State will return to SEC play this weekend with a three-game road series against No. 4 Alabama that will begin Friday, April 8. All three games will air on SEC Network+ which can be viewed through WatchESPN.com and the Watch ESPN app.
