IRVING, Texas -- Former Mississippi State cornerback Taveze Calhoun was selected to the 2016 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.
Calhoun recorded over a 3.5 GPA during his undergraduate career in Starkville and was a four-time member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. Last December, he was named a finalist for the most prestigious academic honor in all of college football, the Campbell Trophy. He was the SEC's only NFF National-Scholar Athlete in 2015.
Calhoun, who started 36 games for the Bulldogs, has turned his attention to a professional career as the 2016 NFL Draft gets underway Thursday.
The Hampshire Honor Society represents an important component in the organization's rich history as an innovator in promoting the scholar-athlete ideal, which began in 1959 with the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards.
Launched with a donation from Hall of Fame coach Earl "Red" Blaik, the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments, became the first initiative in history to grant postgraduate scholarships based on a player's combined academic success, football performance and community leadership.
