Track & Field Splits Action Between Louisiana and Virginia

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Splitting action between two states, the Mississippi State track and field teams are set to appear in the LSU Alumni Gold meet and the Virginia Challenge.
“We're nearing the end of the outdoor regular season,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “This is a big weekend for our athletes. We're hoping to have a lot of top performances this weekend.”
Brandon McBride will step up to the line for the 800m run for the first time this season. McBride holds the MSU school record in the event with a time of 1:45.35. He is currently ranked No. 6 in the 1500m run with a time of 3:41.92.
Taking on the high jump for the Maroon and White will be Seth Peace, who cleared a personal-best 7-01 two weeks ago. His clearance is the 21st-best in the nation so far.
Also in the field, Curtis Thompson returns to action in Baton Rouge in the javelin throw. Thompson still ranks No. 2 in the event after a throw of 265-10 at the Florida State Relays.
Last weekend, Brianna Smith threw the second-best throw in MSU school history after tossing 185-03.
Ranking 21st nationally in the 200m dash, Rodrigo Rocha looks to improve his time of 20.77 in the event this weekend.
Taking on the 400m dash for the third time this season is Alfred Larry. Larry's best time of the season is 45.94, ranking him seventh in the country.
Shayla Luckett and Kimari Martin are both set to take on the women's 400m dash for the first time since the Florida Relays. Luckett's time of 52.74 ranks her No. 23 in the event, while Martin is 48th with a time of 53.70.
Six members of the No. 11 women's track and field team will travel to Virginia for the Virginia Challenge.
Appearing in the 1500m run for the first time since the Florida Relays, the nation's leader in the event, Marta Freitas, looks to improve her time of 4:12.91. Ffion Price will be competing alongside Freitas. Price's best time of the season is 4:17.94, the 16th-best in the nation.
No. 9 in the steeplechase, Cornelia Griesche, will take on the event for the second time this season. Antonia Hehr will be right by Griesche's side looking to better her time of 10:21.07, which ranks her No. 28.
Mia Meydrich and Shannon Fair will also join the trip to Virginia. Meydrich will take on the 5000m run, while Fair makes her first appearance in the 10,000m run.
The LSU Alumni Gold meet will kick off with Haley Reynolds in the discus throw Saturday monring at 9 a.m CT, while the Virginia Challenge starts tonight at 6:25 p.m. featuring Griesche and Hehr in the 3000m steeplechase.
