MSU Turns Attention To SEC Championship
April 14, 2016 | Women's Golf
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Fresh off a Top 10 finish at the LSU Tiger Classic, the Mississippi State women's golf team looks to carry that momentum into the weekend's SEC Championship held in Birmingham, April 15-17. The Greystone Legacy Course will play host again to the tournament, featuring all 14 SEC schools. As its name implies, the course is a revered and heightening challenge to all players. Designed by world famous architect, Rees Jones, each hole is an inviting, yet a demanding contest. The Bulldogs competed in eight regular-season tournaments this season, placing in the Top 10 four times, with their best finish coming in the Schooner Fall Classic at No. 3. Ending the final regular-season tournament tied for ninth, junior Ji Eun Baik will be playing in the top spot for the Bulldogs this weekend. “I played pretty well in the last tournament, and I hope to carry that momentum into the SEC Championship,” said Baik. “We learned a lot of how to manage a tough course, in Baton Rouge and that will really help us out this weekend. We have all been mentally preparing for the tough teams we will be facing.'' Joining Baik for the trip will be Jessica Peng, Bianca Theron, Itzel Pieters, and Katie Holt. MSU finished the SEC Championship in 12th place a year ago before a birth in the NCAA Tournament. The team looks to top last year's finish, but not without a challenge. The SEC holds six of the Top 25 teams in the nation, including No. 1 Alabama. The team will tee off Friday morning.
