Ware Named To SEC Community Service Team
March 04, 2016 | Men's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Gavin Ware has always held his hometown of Starkville, Miss., near to his heart. On Friday, his dedication and commitment to giving back to his community earned him a spot on the 2016 SEC Men's Basketball Community Service Team.
“I love being able to give back to the community,” Ware said. “I think it's something all athletes should do. For me, it's very rewarding.”
The Bulldog senior, who ranks in the top five in career rebounds and top 20 in career points at MSU, has been active all four years throughout his hometown community. In both the offseason and regular season, Ware reads to children at the local Starkville schools and is very active with kids' fitness programs at the Starkville SportsPlex.
Ware has also been very active in community family nights in Starkville, promoting reading and MSU basketball. He assists in various basketball clinics for youth programs, while also participating in the annual MSU basketball camps.
MSU's leading big man also has a love for music and his church, as he can often be found singing and playing musical instruments at his local church.
He has also taken his musical talents to Jackson, Miss., and the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital, which the Bulldogs visit annually. Ware reads and sings with kids who are patients at the hospital, aiming to brighten their day if just for a little while.
