
Thompson Earns SEC Field Athlete Of The Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After a record-breaking throw that currently leads the nation, sophomore Curtis Thompson earns SEC Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
“Thank your for this honor,” Thompson said. “I'm blessed to be recognized in a conference with such talent in the field events.”
On Friday, Thompson threw a personal-best 265-10 in the javelin to break the school record, and the Mike Long Track facility record at the Florida State Relays.He went on to finish first in the event.
The Florence, N.J., native concluded his freshman season on the national stage. Thompson competed in the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships where he finished third in the javelin with a throw of 247-05. He received First-Team All-American accolades for his success.
Coming into his sophomore campaign, Thompson held the second-best throw in school history set at the 2015 SEC Track & Field Championships. He finished fourth in the event after throwing 248-01.
“This is a great honor, and Curtis is a deserving athlete,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “He's worked so hard to get where he is and we are all proud of him. I think there are still some great things to come from him.”
Thompson will be back in action in the javelin this weekend at the Florida Relays in Gainesville. He will be competing Thursday, March 31, at 6 p.m. CT.
