February 06, 2016 | Women's Golf
Starkville, Miss. – Coming of the winter hiatus, the Mississippi State women's golf team is prepared for a stellar spring to round out the 2015-16 season.
The Bulldogs open the spring slate Sunday in Orlando, Fla., at the UCF Challenge.
Eagle Creek Golf Course will play host to 12 teams for the three-day tournament, scheduled to conclude on Tuesday. This prestigious course is known for being Florida's first golf course to use technologically advanced Mini-Verde grass, resulting in very fast and vibrant greens.
“This tournament is a new addition to our schedule. The Eagle Creek Course is one of Florida's finest courses, so we are excited to be starting our spring season there,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “We have put in a lot of work and preparation in the off season. We are excited to see that pay off this event.”
Competing for the Bulldogs this week will be Juniors Ji Eun Baik, Jessica Peng and Izel Pieters, as well as freshmen Bianca Theron and Kendall Wisenbaker, who will be making her collegiate debut.
Freshman Katie Holt will be playing as an individual.
Mississippi State finished the fall portion of the season with it's best finish coming at the Schooner Fall Classic in Oklahoma, where the Bulldogs shot a total 565 in two days and came in third.
The spring season is made up of four regular season tournaments.
The Bulldogs had the luxury of using the recently finished Mississippi State Varsity Golf Facility at Old Waverly Golf Course this offseason, which helped them stay on top of their game, even when weather was less than ideal.
