MSU Looking To Extend Winning Streak To Three Straight
February 23, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Tip-off from Reed Arena is slated for 6 p.m. Joe Tessitore and Sean Farnham will handle the ESPN2 broadcast duties, while Jim Ellis and Richard Williams will have the call on the MSU Radio Network.
Four Bulldogs (12-14, 5-9) recorded double-digit outings Saturday at Alabama. Quinndary Weatherspoon paced the MSU offense with 15 points and four rebounds. Craig Sword added 13 points, while Gavin Ware and I.J. Ready scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Weatherspoon's performance Saturday, coupled with his career-high 24 points and buzzer-beating 3-point winner against Vanderbilt, earned him Co-SEC Freshman of the Week. The honor is Weatherspoon's second of the season, earning his first in November.
Texas A&M (20-7, 9-5) rallied to knock off No. 16 Kentucky in a 79-77 overtime thriller. Jalen Jones lead the Aggies with 24 points and eight rebounds. Tyler Davis, with whom Weatherspoon shares this week's SEC Freshman of the Week feat, earned his second career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Davis also provided A&M's game winning-putback as time expired to secure the Aggie victory.
Jones leads the Aggies with 16 points and seven rebounds per game. Danuel House and Davis also post double-digit point averages with 15.4 and 10.9 points per outing. Alex Caruso provides a presence on the defensive end with a league-best 2.2 steals per game. The Aggies also surrender the fewest points in the conference, allowing just 65.8 points per game
Texas A&M leads the all-time series against MSU 5-3 with a 2-0 advantage in College Station.
“We got two wins and that is what I am really excited about,” Weatherspoon said. “We got back-to-back wins in the SEC and that is what I am most excited about. The awards that I have won, I credit my teammates for those because they put me in a position to win them.”
Following Wednesday's action, the Bulldogs return to Humphrey Coliseum to host South Carolina Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
